Fleet behavior

An order remains owned by the account that created it. First Delivery may assign it to an internal driver, an external delivery provider, or a supplying fleet under an active fleet contract.

Assignment and provider selection can change while the order is active. Integrations should:

  • treat the current API representation as authoritative;
  • avoid caching driver or provider identity as permanent;
  • react to order state, not assumptions about who performs the delivery;
  • keep cancellation and status updates tied to the order ID.

Supplying fleets can work contracted orders without taking ownership of them. Reporting and permissions may therefore distinguish the owning account from the fleet currently performing the work.

Status updates should be monotonic in your system, but duplicate and delayed notifications must be tolerated. Refetch the order whenever an out-of-order event would cause a destructive action.
